ROAD TANKER & RORO

Road tanker and RoRo transport

A practical way to connect European bulk collection, the ferry crossing and UK delivery with the right tanker equipment.

What unaccompanied RoRo means

In an unaccompanied RoRo movement, the tanker trailer travels on the ferry without its road tractor unit and driver. A local tractor takes the loaded trailer to the departure port and hands it over for the sailing. At the destination port, another tractor collects the trailer and completes the onward road leg. The tanker trailer is the unit that crosses the sea.

This arrangement is different from a driver travelling with the vehicle for the whole journey. It may suit a route with separate local collection and delivery resources, but the decision depends on the available sailings, port processes, equipment, collection time and receiving site. We plan the handovers as part of the same movement rather than treating the ferry as a separate afterthought.

Direct road tanker options

Some dry bulk shipments are better planned as a direct road tanker movement with the tractor and driver continuing through the crossing. Others may benefit from an unaccompanied trailer or a suitable bulk container route. We review the product, origin, destination, tonnage, loading and discharge methods, delivery window and equipment return before assessing the options.

Road silo tankers can be relevant to suitable powders, polymers and plastic granules when both ends have appropriate bulk handling arrangements. Product and equipment compatibility, including any cleaning and previous-load requirements supplied by the customer, must be checked before a carrier and route are confirmed. Our polymer transport page gives a product-focused overview.

Port and delivery coordination

Port cut-offs determine when the trailer must arrive for a sailing. The receiving port also needs a collection plan, and the final delivery must match the customer’s discharge slot and site access. We coordinate these stages with carriers and ferry or port arrangements, while keeping the required documents, references and handover information aligned with the agreed movement.

A missed collection or an unsuitable unloading method can affect the whole schedule. That is why early information about the product, hose or discharge requirements, operating hours, restrictions and planned delivery time matters. See how we plan the route for the sequence from enquiry to delivery.

Where this service fits

Our principal focus is dry bulk transport between the Benelux and the UK, including Belgium–UK movements. We can review suitable routes from elsewhere in mainland Europe as well. If the material needs temporary storage, pallet handling or transfer into a tanker before the road leg, we can explore support through specialist partners; these facilities are subject to a route-specific check.

To discuss a regular flow or an individual load, send the route, product, tonnage, equipment and handling details through the contact page or email enquiries@northseabulklogistics.com. The services overview shows the related options.
